OK folks I have done it. I have been hesitating to start my blog and today I finally have done it. I am going to share what goes on in this mind God has given me and I hope it sparks thoughts, conversation and hopefully helps enlighten someone, informing their decisions. Thank you for reading and I sincerely hope you will subscribe.
So let's start. Is it me or has the quality of the writing of many shows and movies appear to be on a steep decline. Today it smacked me right in the face. I was watching Monarch Legacy of Monsters, season 2 episode 2 and about 20 minutes into the episode it smacked me right in the face. Like a spouse standing in front of your video game or TV episode to tell you to get off of your behind and take out the trash. What I am saying is it woke me up out of my trance. It forced me to stop enjoying the show and get annoyed. Cate Randa against just about everyone's objection pushes the button. This is where the horrid writing, the lack of attention to detail. The “we think people are to stupid to catch this” starts. Cate caused the death of Natalia, the Monarch Director in charge. The wife to a husband with at least one child. When cate is confronted by her father she gets an attitude like she is not to blame and is told by multiple characters that she did the right thing. Right Thing! What, causing the directors death? No where does anyone stop to reflect on the fact that the directors death just happened. They move on like nothing transpired and Cate never takes a moment to morn and reflect on what she did. Not really! She may have taken a moment and casually said it was her fault but was quickly assured that she did the right thing even though the director died and the monster was let loos on the Earth. This lack of attention to detail is becoming really hard to watch.
This has been happening all over TV from Star Trek Starfleet Academy having a female cross bred Jem’Hadar and Klingon when the Jem’Hadar are a all male race that does not reproduce sexually or through laying eggs, but they basically clone themselves to new offspring. There are other issues with that show but if I listed them I would never stop writing. To even going back to Transformers Age of Extinction, where Mark Wahlberg blocks a Transformers blow using one of there guns to block it. With the power of the Transformers over humans, Wahlberg should have been crushed. He could never block a blow from a robot that big. This stuff is getting out of hand.
So this is my rant against lazy Hollywood writers. As a consumer I believe we deserve better story telling, better ideas and more respect. So what I have started doing is abandoning the shows with outrageous weak and shallow writing. This is the only way forward. You write a weak show and we will not watch and your show will be cancelled. Only by doing this will Hollywood understand that we appreciate good story telling. No writer can be perfect but at least be thoughtful and stop trying to push narratives and just tell great stories that are relatable and believable. I could go on and on but I will stop. Subscribe and drop me an email and we can continue this discussion.
One more thought, send me your Sci Fi choices. the programs or movies you think are really good, fun but absolutely well written. I am a big Trek fan. I also love Star Wars so what they did with Kylo Ren and Luke Skywalker was unforgivable. Just saying!
